On Sunday night, Beyoncé became the most awarded artist in the 31-year history of the MTV Video Music Awards, when she took home the award for "Best Female Video," her 21st. The pop star was up for 11 awards at the show and needed four wins to become the most awarded artist and overtake Madonna's record.
The video for "Formation," from her Lemonade visual album, won five awards on its own, including "Best Pop Video," "Best Choreography," and "Video of the Year." Beyoncé's "Hold Up' video won the award for "Best Female Video." Beyoncé won 8 VMAs on Sunday, putting her at a total of 24 for her career.
Beyoncé is also the most Grammy nominated artist and the most BET awarded artist. She joins Eminem and Rihanna as the only artists to win multiple "Video of the Year" awards.
