Last week, Chance the Rapper covered Billboard's annual Grammy preview issue, in the wake of an announcement from the Recording Academy that streaming-only albums like his Coloring Book will be eligible for awards this year.
The print issue not only features the aforementioned cover story, but also includes a surprise from Chance, who took out an ad petitioning the Grammys to be considered for nomination. The ad makes its case pretty simply, going with an image of an overalled Chance on a white background, accompanied by a simple question: "Hey, why not me?"
When Billboard Senior Editor Frank DiGiacomo tweeted his appreciation for the ad, Chance added, via Twitter, "Yea at first I was like "people take out Grammy ads??? Why? that seems lame." Then I was like "oooooh 😱 I'm gonna make a bunch of these😏." Seems safe to say we can expect more soon.
