On Tuesday, the New York Times reported that the Department of Justice was shaking up its investigation into the death of Eric Garner, replacing NYC-based FBI agents that are allegedly opposed to bringing Civil Rights charges in the case with new investigators. The new development from the D.O.J. has brought renewed hope that there will be legal ramifications in the Garner case: Daniel Pantaleo, the cop that killed Garner, was never indicted, and is currently still a member of the NYPD.
Responding to the news earlier, Garner's widow Esaw Garner said, "I’m very pleased about it. But I don’t want to count my chickens before they hatch." Now Erica Garner, Eric Garner's activist daughter, has spoken out as well. In a statement, she says:
