2016 has seen the untimely deaths of more than a few icons in the music world, and 21-year-old singer-songwriter Molly Kate Kestner has delivered a soulful anthem that deals with these losses in "Good Die Young."
"Being a girl from Minnesota, when I moved to L.A. I expected sunshine every day. So April 21 is a day I especially remember, because I woke up to the sound of rain and the news that Prince had passed away," she told The FADER over email. "The last thing I wanted to do was drive to my session, but I'm glad I did. Because that was the day we wrote "Good Die Young." "Good Die Young" is not just a song for one demographic. It's a song for every age, race, & religion. It's a question so many have asked & a call to action for everyone who hears it. It is my candle of hope in a world that could use a little more light."
