Sources say the network is considering scaling back The Voice from two cycles a year to one to include the reboot into its schedule.

NBC is in talks with FremantleMedia to bring back American Idol, Variety reports. According to sources close to the situation, the network is considering options to integrate a reboot of the long-running singing competition into their programming.

American Idol, which began airing in 2002, ran on Fox for 15 seasons. After ratings began to decline, Fox cancelled the show in 2016 with the final season averaging 9.1 million viewers.

NBC's schedule currently includes competition shows The Voice and America's Got Talent. The network also ordered dance competition series from former American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez, which is yet to be scheduled. NBC is considering cutting the voice from two cycles a year to one to include the American Idol reboot into their programming, sources told Variety,
