Stormzy’s Gang Signs & Prayer Is The No. 1 Album In The U.K.
The London MC’s debut is the first independently released grime album to top the U.K. chart.
Stormzy's album Gang Signs & Prayer has debuted at No. 1 in the U.K., earning combined chart sales of 69,000 according to Official Charts Company data. The album is Stormzy's debut and marks the first No. 1 of his career.
Gang Signs & Prayer faced strong competition for the top spot from Rag'n'Bone Man and his album, Human. Stormzy came out on top though, having switched positions with the BRIT-winner throughout the week. The success was largely thanks to streams with the album breaking the U.K. record for the most first-week streams for a No. 1 album. The record previously belonged to Drake's VIEWS.
The independently released album is the first independent grime album No. 1 in U.K. chart history. Tinie Tempah topped the charts back in 2010 with his album Disc-overy, released via Parlophone/EMI.
