Lana Del Rey gave her first live performance of the year on Friday night at SXSW in Austin, Texas. The singer ran through favorites from her catalog, including “Video Games” and “Yayo” (for which she played guitar herself). She closed out the set with her first-ever live performance of "Love," her latest single.
Del Rey's upcoming album is still unnamed and no release date has yet been announced. During a recent conversation with BBC Radio 2’s Jo Whiley about her fifth studio album, the singer said the project will be "more socially aware" than her previous records.
"I started out thinking that the whole record was gonna have a sort of a ’50s-’60s feeling, kind of some kind of Shangri-Las, early Joan Baez influences," She said. "But I don’t know, as the climate kept on getting more heated politically, I found lyrically everything was just directed towards that. So because of that, the sound just got really updated, and I felt like it was more wanting to talk to the younger side of the audience that I have... It’s kind of a global feeling.”
