Celebrate the women you know who ruthlessly demand to be treated well.

In the great tradition of women making good rap songs better is Coco Mamba’s “Bad & Boujee,” a balmy celebration of not allowing yourself to be controlled by unimpressive men. FADER editor Patrick sent it to me because his “roommate was going to a punk show last night,” and Coco — a Brooklyn-based singer and filmmaker — was opening. She raps like she’s speaking, softly. It sounds like she’s doing what she says she’s doing: figuring out how to perform on her own terms, without indulging someone else’s demands. It sounds fucking good.
