The organization was founded by Obama's education secretary, Arne Duncan. Obama's spokesman Kevin Lewis said to The Independent, "The president and Mrs Obama look forward to working with similar organizations through the Obama Foundation and the My Brother's Keeper initiative that are already committed to bringing much needed expansion of opportunities in Chicago neighbourhoods," Lewis said.

Obama has stayed away from United States politics since leaving the presidency, opting to party with billionaire Richard Branson and sign a $60 million book deal along with his wife Michelle.
