DJ Orange Julius Flips Gucci Mane Into Footwork On “Still Geekin”

DJ Orange Julius knows how to make things stick. I first became aware of the producer through a remix of Daniel Bedingfield's “Gotta Get Through This," enchanted by both the song and the logo for Mall Music, his collective with the Brainfeeder and Teklife-affiliated DJ Paypal. That logo, an orgy of the McDonald's golden arches, is on full display in Sam Lubicz's video for DJ O.J.'s new single "Still Geekin," premiering today on The FADER. The lead sample is Gucci Mane's 2013 track "Breakfast," with its apocalyptic haze ratcheted up several notches into a turbo-charged blast of footwork. "Still Geekin" will appear on The Grove, Orange Julius's six-years-in-the-making debut album, out June 16 on Mall Music. You can preorder it here.

"Still Geekin was birthed off a AM dutch back in 2013," Orange Julius told The FADER over email. "I was burning early morning with my brother and roommate when I heard the sample, I went straight to the lab and started chopping. The track soon became a classix at the trap spot."
