In October of 2016, about five months after his release from federal prison, Gucci Mane and acclaimed nonfiction Malcolm Gladwell exchanged compliments on Twitter. "You my favorite author," the Atlanta rapper told Gladwell, adding that he had read Blink, Outliers, and The Tipping Point.
A year later, and now an author himself, Gucci Mane sat down with Gladwell to discuss the process of writing his autobiography and his ideology.
"A lot of my strategy has been desperation," Gucci told Gladwell about his time in prison. "I'm looking at it like, I'm in prison; every song that I got on my computer, release it. Feed it to the people because I can't physically be there. I gotta stay relevant, I can't lose, I can't get outta here and be the laughing stock. That pride keeps me creative."
