Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named “Man (Person) of the Year,” like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!

On Friday evening, President Trump took to Twitter to make a claim. According to him, TIME had called him for an interview and photo shoot as they would "probably" name him Person of the Year — a slot that was previously called Man of the Year. According to Trump, he decided to pass on the opportunity, though he was chosen for the role in December 2016. But Friday night TIME responded on Twitter saying something to the effect of: that's not how this works.
The President is incorrect about how we choose Person of the Year. TIME does not comment on our choice until publication, which is December 6.
