Rihanna was in Barbados on Thursday, November 30, as she was honored with her own street. The news that Rih would have a street named after her in the town of St. Michael was first announced in October. The official unveiling of Rihanna Drive coincided with Barbados's Independence Day.
A plaque featuring a message from Rihanna appears on the road, formerly known as Westbury New Road. The plaque includes her statement that "My whole life was shaped on this very road."
Rihanna wore a bright yellow dress for the occasion, a look only dampened by the torrential rain that hit St. Michael on the day. At one point in the proceedings she gave a speech in which she noted the importance of following your dreams: "I guarantee you the only thing that got me here was believing in my dream."
