Kendrick Lamar will oversee the official soundtrack to Marvel's Black Panther alongside Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith and TDE. Lamar was handpicked by director Ryan Coogler and appears alongside SZA on the lead single "All The Stars." Stream that song above.
A press release notes that Lamar and Tiffith "will collaborate with Coogler directly in the creation of music specific to the needs of the film." The project marks the first time that Lamar will write, produce, perform and curate for a major motion picture. Further details about the album, including tracklist and release date, remain TBC.
The Compton rapper previously hinted at his involvement in the movie in the video for his DAMN. track "LOVE." A slate in that video, released in December, read “B. Panther Soundtrack Coming Soon.”
"Marvel Studios’ Black Panther is amazing, from its cast to its director. The magnitude of this film showcases a great marriage of art and culture," Lamar said in a statement. "I'm truly honored to contribute my knowledge of producing sound and writing music alongside Ryan and Marvel's vision."
Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong'o, Michael B. Jordan, Daniel Kaluuya, Forest Whitaker, and Angela Bassett. It is due in cinemas on February 16.
