Banks left a deal with Universal in July 2014 and released her album Broke With Expensive Taste through her own label Azealia Banks Records and Prospect Park via Caroline Records. She referred to her tumultuous label experience in one Instagram post: "The Industry left me out on the street like a stray dog and now I have shelter again." In addition to Entertainment One, Banks's caption tags William Robillard-Cole, manager for Kaytranada, Lou Phelps, and Sango.

She thanked her fans for supporting her in another post. "You guys are so powerful I swear this is the product of all my little witchy kunts manifesting and sending me love."

In January, Banks announced that Entertainment One would release her project Fantasea II: The Second Wave, a sequel to her 2012 mixtape Fantasea, in March. She shared a single from the release, "Escapades," in October.

Chris Taylor, Global President of Music at Entertainment One, confirmed the signing in a statement emailed to The FADER: “We are excited to welcome Azealia to eOne, and to partner with our new superstar on this next phase of her career.”
