Instagram will allow users to mute accounts without having to unfollow them, BuzzFeed reports. The move will mean you don't have to risk upsetting a friend or family member whose posts you no longer want to see in your timeline.
The new function affects photo posts, with the abillity to mute Stories having already been made possible. You will still be able to see DMs from an account you muted and will be notified if they tag you in their photos.
A rep for Instagram admitted to BuzzFeed that the function "may be a useful tool for managing complex social dynamics.” Muting will be rolled out to all users in the coming weeks, so may not necessarily be available immediately.
