Next Friday, June 29, will see the release of Drake's new album, Scorpion. Seven days out from the release date and a series of billboards have been spotted in Toronto advertising the project. Interestingly, one of the posters says "A Side" and "B Side" while another asks, "Is There More?"
This has led some fans on Twitter to question whether Scorpion is set to be a double album. The nature of a double album in the age of streaming is a tricky one. This is an era, after all, when Kanye West can release a 7-track album while Migos's latest arrived with 24 songs. Perhaps, as some fans are suggesting, Drake could split things by genre with one "side" focusing on rap and the other leaning into his R&B sound.
It's worth noting that June 29 marks the introduction of new streaming rules on both the Billboard Hot 100 & Billboard 200. As of that date greater emphasis will be given to paid subscription streams. I.e. what a time to be putting a lot of music onto streaming services.
