On June 26, Judge Genece Brinkley denied Meek Mill's motion for a new trial in his 2007 gun and drug charges. Now, Meek Mill's legal team have announced that they will once again ask the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to remove Judge Brinkley from the case.
In their filing, Meek's legal team claim Brinkley “acted like a prosecutor, not a judge” and conducted a "hostile cross-examination" of Bradley Bridge, a witness for Meek Mill, and laughed during his testimony. The filing also claims Judge Brinkley "criticized" the Philly D.A.'s involvement with the case – D.A. Larry Krasner has called for Meek Mill's original conviction to be thrown out.
Meek Mill and his legal team have been pushing for a new trial since Mill's original arresting officer Reginald Graham was named on a list of "tainted" Philly cops, and have repeatedly accused Brinkley of inappropriate conduct. In her ruling this week, Judge Brinkley wrote that Meek Mill's legal team "failed to meet his burden of proof."
It will be the legal team's second attempt this month to have Judge Brinkley removed from the case. The Supreme Court denied the first petition, but agreed to revisit the case after the June 18 hearing.
