Cardi B has issued a counter lawsuit against her former manager, Klenord “Shaft” Raphael. In April Leonard sued her for $10m, claiming to have "played an integral role in developing her music career and public image." Leonard is listed as a co-writer on Cardi B's "Bodak Yellow."
Variety reports Cardi B's counter-suit claims Leonard attempted to "maintain complete control over her" by dictating who she was romantically involved with. Leonard is also accused of being "increasingly willing to take advantage of, deceive and exploit" his former client. The suit calls the manager both “deceitful and disloyal” and “self-serving and controlling.”
The counter-suit claims that Leonard put “barriers between [Cardi] and people close to her in an effort to maintain complete control over her” and dictated “who she should and should not see romantically.”
It also alleges that he "proved increasingly willing to take advantage of, deceive and exploit Ms. Almanzar and he had the ability to do so through complete control over all legal documents and virtually every dollar that [Cardi B] earned in the entertainment business.” It calls Shaft “deceitful and disloyal” and “self-serving and controlling.”
A representative for Cardi B was not immediately available for comment.
