If you’ve caught DRAM live recently, you may have been lucky enough to hear his very rare take on Outkast’s classic slow jam Prototype - trust us, it’s a great experience. Actually, you don’t have to trust us, because today DRAM is sharing an official video for the cover, and it’s everything you’d want it to be. This version, the visual for which features DRAM performing the track in front of a tiny audience in a very humble-looking nightclub, strips down both the tempo and the arrangement to the bare minimum, with just electric piano and bass backing up DRAM’s croon.

It’s a situation that does wonders for appreciating just how versatile DRAM’s voice can be. Everybody knows you can count on the “Broccoli” singer to get your summertime barbecue jumping, so it’s nice to be reminded that he’s also got jams for when the party ends. The original Outkast track was a full on picking-flowers-in-your-spaceship good time, but in DRAM’s hands it becomes downright heartbreaking, as he gets caught up in the track’s most yearning feelings. Watch the full video above, and don’t be surprised if you get the urge to shed a single, soulful tear.
