Earlier this year, when Ms. Lauryn Hill announced her tour for the 20th anniversary of Miseducation, she also unveiled an impressive number of openers for the tour, including SZA, Dave Chapelle, and M.I.A. Now, it appears as though she's paring back the roster.
Brooklyn Vegan reported that her Portland gig on Wednesday was opened by a DJ as opposed to announced sets from Santigold and Nas. Disappointed fans were told the cancellation was due to "production issues," but Santigold's Twitter tells another story. "I’m bummed that @mslaurynhill and crew didn’t tell ppl why we’re not there," she wrote. "She took us off the bill." Read Santigold's entire statement below.
It's the latest in a series of issues that have marred Hill's once eagerly anticipated tour. A number of dates were cancelled back in July. Last month, Hill responded to critics with a lengthy essay addressing her professionalism and Robert Glasper's claims that she didn't credit songwriters on Miseducation.
