Beyoncé and Jay Z were the recipients of the Vanguard Award at the 30th Annual GLAAD Media Awards on Thursday night. The couple was present at the ceremony, with both artists speaking in an emotional acceptance speech. Jay Z honored his mom, who received the same award the year prior and whose story he told on his 4:44 album. Beyoncé, meanwhile, was on the edge of tears as she remembered her Uncle Johnny, "The most fabulous gay man I ever knew."
“He lived his truth; he was brave and unapologetic during a time when this country wasn’t as accepting — witnessing his battle with HIV was one of the most painful experiences I’ve ever lived,” she said of her uncle, before praising her husband for his work "changing stigmas in the hip-hop community."
