Los Angeles singer-songwriter Miya Folick is back with a new single, "Malibu Barbie." The song reckons with the unrealistic standards we internalize. If that sounds like a spiel you may have heard before, trust that when glittered up by Folick's dynamic lyricism and pinpoint voice, it makes for an unmitigated jam. If "Malibu Barbie" sat in the sun all day, she'd be nothing but melted plastic, but at the very least Miya Folick could craft something intriguing from the wreckage.
"It’s a longing for an ideal. It’s realizing that I can go to an extreme in pursuit of physical perfection, look around, and realize that I haven’t changed," Folick said in a press release. "I am still longing and seeking something more. Who I am is not a place at which I can arrive.”
"Malibu Barbie" marks Folick's first offering since her debut album Premonitions, which was released last year. Throughout the summer, Folick will be playing a number of gigs across Europe and North America. Check out her dates, and hear "Malibu Barbie," below.
