East London-born drill artist Unknown T has been charged with murder, the Metropolitan Police confirmed in a statement to The FADER this afternoon. The 19-year-old rapper, whose real name is Daniel Lena, is due in court on Thursday.
Police say that Lena and two other men — 20-year-old Ramani Boreland and 20-year-old Mohammed Musse — have been charged with the murder of 20-year-old Steven Narvaez-Jara, who was stabbed at a party in Islington, London, early on New Year's Day, 2018. According to police, Musse was arrested that New Year's Day, while Boreland and Lena were arrested in the days after. All three were formally charged on July 6 this year.
"Police were called by the London Ambulance Service (LAS) on New Year’s Day, Monday, 1 January at around 02:35 hours to an address, a flat in Bartholomew Court, EC1," reads the statement. "[Narvaez-Jara], from Belvedere Kent, was found suffering from stab injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Another 20-year-old man at the scene who was also found with stab injuries was taken to hospital and subsequently recovered."
Unknown T broke through in the UK last year with his single "Homerton B." The FADER interviewed him last November.
The FADER has reached out to Unknown T's representatives for comment. We'll update this piece if and when we hear back.
