The SZA drought really does feel palpable. Believe me, I remember the days between 2014's Z and 2017's Ctrl — good work takes good time, and by no means should SZA feel forced to rush out a full-fledged album. Maybe it's because Ctrl has grown to feel so lived-in at this point, like a record we've known our entire lives, that the desperation for new material rings so strong.
SZA is still touring the album well into 2019; currently, she's in Australia playing a number of festivals down there. At one of those recent gigs, she teased some crucial info. "True tea, I'm probably gonna drop a little project before my album so I can just get it out of the way," she told the crowd. "Because realistically speaking, if you leave it up to my foolish ass, we'll be here quite some time."
She added that "the ones that you guys know are the ones that I'll be dropping, and if you research what you should know, than you'll know." What does that mean? Are we getting some of that Kevin Parker and Mark Ronson material? Is Sister Solana making a comeback? Could we finally hear the full version of this snippet? Only time will tell.
