Succession is a runaway hit for HBO, and the gripping drama's theme song composed by Nicholas Britell is fast becoming an iconic introduction in television's so-called "golden age." Piano-driven with hip-hop inspired bass, it was only a matter of time before a high-profile rapper put their spin on it, and this Friday, it's happening: "Puppets," featuring bars from Pusha T, will drop on Friday October 11. Speaking with Vulture, Pusha T spoke about how Succession's themes fit into the hip-hop tradition: “The greed, the resentment, the idea anybody is basically disposable — that’s a gangsta movie type of quality. On Succession, it’s involving family, it’s like, 'Whoa!' It’s a bit more shocking... And so that’s what made the writing process fun, because I could use all of the street, gangster rap nuances and qualities and energy and incorporate it into the theme of the music. It was really just a dope exercise, honestly.”
"Puppets" is the latest in a string of new songs from Pusha T. In the final week of August, Pusha dropped "Sociopath" , and "Coming Home" featuring Ms. Lauryn Hill. Both songs were produced by Kanye West.
