Lay out the satin sheets and dim the lights: Maxwell is back. One of the leading voices of the '90s neo-soul movement, Maxwell's legacy carried well into the new millennium with the classic albums BLACKsummers'night, released in 2009, and 2016's blackSUMMERS'night. After years of teasing, Maxwell has finally announced that the third installment in the trilogy, blacksummers’NIGHT, will be released in spring 2022. Its latest single is called "OFF," and you can hear it below.
"OFF" finds Maxwell in the mode he's operated in so well for decades: creating bedroom jams with eternity on the mind. That applies to the depth of feeling Maxwell croons about and the music itself, a richly textured mosaic with an effortlessly pristine nature.
Next year, Maxwell will embark on a tour of the United States. Anthony Hamilton and Joe will open the dates. Presale begins on November 22 with general sale tickets available on November 23. See all the shows below.
