The 2022 Emmys took place in Los Angeles on Monday night and joining Ted Lasso, Succession, and The White Lotus among the night's big winners was Lizzo. Her Amazon Prime reality series Watch Out For The Big Grrrls was named Outstanding Competition Program, beating shows including Ru Paul's Drag Race and Top Chef to the title.
Accepting her prize, a visibly emotional Lizzo spoke about the importance of seeing women like her on the screen. “When I was a little girl, all I wanted to see was me in the media,” Lizzo said from the stage. “Someone fat like me, Black like me, beautiful like me. If I could go back and tell little Lizzo something, I’d be like, ‘You gonna see that person, but bitch, it’s gonna have to be you.'”
Watch Out For The Big Grrrls debuted in March and sees plus-sized women competing to feature as dancers on Lizzo's upcoming tour, which begins later this month. Special, Lizzo's latest album, was released in May. A separate Lizzo documentary will debut on HBO Max in the fall.
