Kid Cudi has dropped a new, Ty Dolla $ign-featuring cut called “Willing To Trust,” the second single from his forthcoming TV series and tenth studio LP. Entergalactic premieres on Netflix September 30, and its accompanying album goes live no digital streaming platforms the same day. It takes its name from the ninth track of the Cleveland rapper/actor/director debut studio release, 2009’s Man On the Moon: The End of the Day. He shared a trailer for the multimedia project, confirmed its release date, and put out its lead offering, “Do What I Want,” back in June.
“Entergalactic is everything I’ve always wanted to do, create a long-form visual companion to an album,” Cudi has said of the show and record. “It all started with the music which helped bring this storyline and these characters to life. Entergalactic is unlike anything I’ve ever done, certainly my most ambitious project to date; I can’t wait for you to finally experience it.”
The album’s first two tracks are polar opposites. Whereas “Do What I Want” is a devilish ode to hedonism, “Willing To Trust” is a reassuring reflection on loyalty — a promise to hold a romantic partner down, whatever happens, as long as they’ll do the same. “I’ve been willing to trust someone,” Cudi repeats on the hook, his voice a gentle balm over a Ramii beat that recalls the rapper’s early Ratatat collaborations. Ty adds lush vocal harmonies throughout the track and takes the lead on the second verse, sliding into the song with characteristic ease.
