Three years ago U.K. shoegaze band bdrmm delivered one of the more intriguing debut albums of recent times in Bedroom. The low-key title and band name suggest humble surroundings but the sound of their music was anything but, with huge chasms of sound matching an emotional depth that went bone-deep on frontman Ryan Smith's frustrations and inner-most feelings.
This summer bdrmm return with new album I Don't Know (Out June 30 via Rock Action). We have already heard lead single "It's Just A Bit Of Blood" and today they premiere "Be Careful." There is a peacful ambience to the new song that allows Smith the space to write honestly about the person he felt he was becoming and how best to alter the path and re-orientate himself toward a better spot. Locked in a deep groove, he states this simply with the words: "Be careful of yourself.
Prepare for something else."
"Be Careful was written during the pandemic. I had set up a little studio in the back of my garden and would often take myself there on evenings with numerous bottles of wine. Inspired by Portishead, and with a bassline that owes itself to Radiohead’s "Nude", this track came about so naturally. It’s about taking care of yourself and realising when you need to change. I’ve been guilty of indulging too much and I definitely noticed myself becoming somebody I don’t like. When realising that, it felt important. Trying to be a better person is hard when you don’t know you’re doing something wrong."
