JEWELSSEA has become a club mainstay in the past year, sharing her eclectic, breaks-laden sound across the east coast. Now, the Philadelphia-based DJ has shared a new four-track EP titled B4 U Wake.
Contrasting the more aggressive beats she spins, the project displays JEWELSSEA’s softer side. Its third track, “Won’t Ever Know,” featuring fellow Philly artist Suzanne Sheer is a heart-stricken tune that details a romance that doesn’t work out. “You’ll never let me down / Say you love me now / Love me ‘til I drown,” Sheer croons. Exhibiting her hip-hop background, JEWELSSEA blends sultry ad libs and chopped-up vocal samples with inflections of four-on-the-floor house music, injecting pulsing percussion that mimics the beating of a broken heart. The reiterative vocals throw you in a hypnotic loop, the same way ruminating over an unreciprocated romance would. Listen below.
