Spanky And Our Gang

September 14, 2005

His debut single and mixtape on Money Studies were definite highlights of Booty Summer '05, but there's more and more big tings in the works for the jiggle-master known as Spankrock - from opening the MIA tour that starts this week, to his new tracks featured on Bmore Gutter Music, a mixtape "album" of sorts from Low Budget and Aaron LaCrate, dropping in October on Milkcrate Records.

The disc is split into two continuous mixes by LaCrate and Low B; each DJ's mix features original Baltimore club tracks (like LaCrate's Biggie-sampling "Kick A Hoe" and Low B's Curb Your Enthusiasm ode "Crazy Eyed Killah") as well as exclusive songs from Spankrock and his female MC foil, Amanda Blank. The new joints range from speedy raps about "scripts of Xanax" on "Blow" to squeltching, half-time electronics on "Grit City", and are all sufficiently mindwarped ass-movers. THAT'S HOW WE LIKE IT!

Bmore Gutter Music should hold you over until the Spank full-length drops on Big Dada early next year. Meanwhile, check some FADER-blogged Spankrock live photos here and here, and keep an eye out for the crew as they hit the road.
