Another treat from the world's best mailing list: yesterday we received the Criterion edition of Richard Linklater's Dazed And Confused, due in stores on June 6. You see, D&C is easily in our Top Ten Of All Time (mainly because of the subtle brilliance to its direction, not because we are stoners), so the anticipation levels were high enough that we even read the booklet essay by Chuck Klosstradamus until we could go home and actually watch the dang thing. Once we hit the futon we dug into the extras—audition tapes, insightful making of/reunion documentary and deleted scenes (many of them featuring Christine Harnos' Kaye, the feminist-minded/aloof popular girl and one of the film's most underrated characters). When we were finished with all of that it was past 11PM, and since there was no blooper reel, we decided to check out the opening montage and maybe Parker Posey's air raid tirade before we brushed our teeth. Next thing you know it's one in the morning and we'd watched the whole thing with the same giddy feeling we had when we saw it for the first time on a Sunday afternoon in 1993 at Berkeley's Landmark California 3 theater.
