When you think about it, it's kind of crazy that Glass Candy live in Portland because they make chilled out italo disco that sounds like it is from New York in the 1980s. Either way, we jumped coasts and spent a couple days with Italians Do It Better main dude Johnny Jewel and Glass Candy singer Ida No and tracked their transition from being a totally hated band to a totally loved one. For Issue 51, we went south to the second biggest city in the world to find the little bands who'd been destroying our MySpaces and iPods for the better part of 2007. The result was a discovery of a scene bubbling up from the polluted streets, ready to challenge Mexico's image in and out of the country. We partied our brains out last night celebrating The FADER's 50th Issue and Cornerstone's 100th Mixtape, and while we did so Nick Catchdubs sat at home making this mix on his computer. NOT TRUE, he was totally there partying with us, as were many other people. One of us even continually said to no one in particular that it was the best party ever. As a token, we gave out this mix on a little Ford memory stick to the partygoers, and since we realize not everyone could be there, we're now giving it (sans memory stick) to the world. Very few people outside of actual FADER staff have contributed as much, literally and figuratively, to our magazine and website as Philly-Floridian producer/impresario/globetrotter/DJ/good dude Diplo. From helping birth Hollertronix to penning stories for us to continually championing serious jams, he has given us a lot to listen to and think about. So, it made sense, when we decided to reprint our "New Club" feature from the FADER 50 Special Issue which largely revolves around him, that we'd ask Diplo to make a mix to accompany it. The mix we got, made with Mad Decent cohort Paul Devro is, unsurprisingly, not so much about what's already happened but what is going to happen next, and it is totally nuts.
