At the end of every Friday, we're always caught between wanting to get buck or cuddle up with a good read. We even went to a New Yorker dance party a while back in a combinative effort, but it didn't quite live up to expectations (Too much book, not enough buck.) Leave it to the always thoughtful David Banner to come through for us. His latest mixtape, Spare Clips, is loaded with Hulkified hits like Banner's remix of DG Yola's "Ain't Gone Let Up," and "Let's Roll" with our favorite River City duo, 8ball & MJG. It's definitely one of the crazier mixtapes we've heard in a minute, but that's just the half of it. David also sent us an ALL CAPS list of his personal thoughts on each track, titled "David Banner's Thoughts on Spare Clips." It is a wonderfully detailed and well-arced accompaniment to the tape, and includes pearls of wisdom such as the following, which explains his motivation behind "Talking Shit 2":
"SOME PEOPLE OUT THERE WANT ME TO BUST THEIR FUCKIN' HEAD. I ADDRESS THE PEOPLE WHO WANT THE OLD BANNER TO COME OUT IN THIS SONG. THIS SONG REPRESENTS A BIG FUCK YOU TO THOSE PEOPLE."
Makes sense to us.
