If the fall collections are anything to go by then there's an awful lot of hard-as-nails girl realness headed our way later this year. Last night, designer Michelle Williams of Quail threw a party/presentation downtown, offering a softer vision of what this badass lady might dress like. Hacked up shrunken sweaters were paired with delicate silk minis and demure button downs with cheeky thigh-grazing sparkly shorts. Williams has always had a knack of mixing up her naughty with her nice, even the noirish base color of the collection had carefree jolts of lilac and turquoise. The collection, called Sweet Sweet Rebel, was so playful it seemed like it was bouncing off the huge bubblegum balloons. That's not to dismiss any of the masculine references in the collection though, the sharply tailored blouses, pants and oversized knits are worth noting as well. It's just that like Williams, we prefer our tough manly edges with a gentle rounded finish.
