On "Mermaid Parade" Matthew Houck sounds, as usual, resigned to exhaustion. It's all in his vocals, which are filled with dark corners and left-field moans that don't sound healthy coming from someone so young. But that's the trick with Phosphorescent, it's timeworn music masquerading as new. Songs we've never heard before sound like old standards, and "Mermaid Parade" is like the song we took for granted growing up, only to discover that we had to age into it. Houck and co. are going on tour around the release of Here's to Taking it Easy—this time without David Gray. You can check those dates after the jump.
