Lo-fi's distinctly '90s parentage is writ large in "Kids," which sounds like it came from an Olympia or DC basement circa 1993, but in fact was born in Brooklyn, 2010. Holler if you're still making paper fanzines, though—video director Alice Cohen certainly stayed true to the hand-turned aesthetics of DIY, literally cutting and pasting pretty '80s ladies from magazines and letting them drift across a distorted sea. Two-girl power duo Coasting are on that tip, too, handstitching merch and dropping singles on vinyl, the tactile route away from the virtual ether.
