Two hours before Trash Talk went onstage at Santos Party House in New York City, singer Lee Spielman was in their van, pants off, in wild pain. He'd had a leg accident and it had swollen large. The line for the show was down the block and he was half panicked. Live, the band is beastly, much owed to Spielman's itchy energy and literal frontflips. Here, he was debating using a chair and mic stand. In the end, all was well, the rest of the band playing as manically as possible (and with a somewhat surprising nod to "Pon De Floor"—see if you can catch it), and Spielman finding a medium between couch potato performance and his normal hyperactivity. We captured the entire show from onstage and in the crowd. To really understand Trash Talk, you need to see them live. This is the next best thing.
