As well-documented in our current feature story on Jamie XX, the young Brit's angle on old New Yorker Gil Scott-Heron's music is both surprising in its conception and execution. By the time of the pair's We're New Here release, Scott-Heron's voice will have unexpectedly played a large role in some of the biggest musical moments of the last 12 months, from his original I'm New Here album, to Kanye's sample of "Comment #1" on "Lost In The World," to Jamie XX's ascension to top flight producer. The latter almost feels the most organic, the pained soul of the gray poet isolated and then enveloped by the restrained and lonesome sounds of the quiet young man. We're New Here is out on February 22nd in all forms, but the fans may want to pre-order the vinyl box set, which will feature the album on pink heavyweight vinyl, an instrumental version of the album on green heavyweight vinyl, CDs of both the album and instrumental album and 2 limited edition photographic prints.
