Not a lot of people can pull off what John Maus does. They definitely try, but they can't. Long known for broing down with Ariel Pink and Panda Bear and, like, being a professor in Hawaii or something, Maus specializes in making just slightly fucked up versions of songs that you could expect to find on the outtakes disc of a Cure reissue. Chintzy keyboard melodies don't sound especially emotionally intense, but in Maus' hands they are. If you feel like Ariel Pink got too "normal" this is the jam for you. We Must Become The Pitiless Censors Of Ourselves comes out in April late spring/early summer on Upset the Rhythm.
