Kanye West has a rare thing going in rap. He's an album artist, and because he's an album artist, the stuff he does in-between albums is often completely overlooked. It's also some of his more interesting work and usually speaks to some sort of transition as far as what his next album is going to sound like. After 808s we got him doing mush-mouthed hard rapping on DJ Khaled's "Go Hard," and post MBDTW we're getting what sounds like a pre-megastar Kanye, rapping humbly from the bottom of a mountain, which probably means his next record is just going to be him teaming up with, like, James Blake to rap about backpacks and what his life was like before he dropped out of college.
