There's something very '90s (18th, 19th & 20th century!) about Wild Beasts' new video for "Albatross." Director Dave Ma's video feels so reminiscent of MTV '90s rock (dripping branches, beautiful yet untouchable lady who is for some reason dancing and having insects and feathers applied to her by pony-tailed nurses). But it's also got a sort of late 19th-century naturalist vibe going on with the trimmed beards and anthropods, AND lyrically, the song recalls the proverbial albatross 'round his neck from Coleridge's late 18th-century poem Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Altogether this somehow works for Wild Beasts. Their new album, Smother, is out on Domino May 9th.
