Conventional wisdom says that as we get older, our emotions get more tempered. You can be sentimental about love when you're in your 40s or 50s or whatever, but it's balanced by reason, and usually it's more about your kids or your family or whatever. It's the kind of emotional strength and calm that comes from being a seasoned adult who's made a lot of mistakes, but is pretty okay with making them in the long run. Not to put too fine a point on it, but Porcelain Raft’s Mauro Remiddi is not exactly in his 20s. On its own, this isn't notable. But Remiddi makes music that maintains the wide-eyed obsession with the pratfalls of love that are so often a younger person's game, and it's the reason that his music is so compelling. Yesterday, it was announced that Remiddi will drop his first official full length on Secretly Canadian at some point in the future. Listen to its first track, the perfectly titled "Amateur's Feeling" below, then below that, get the tracks from the Daytrotter session, then put them all into your iTunes and read our Gen F from issue #72.
