The groove on this seems entirely one way, at first, like something endlessly pretty, sure, but also settled. Then, at about the one minute mark, Sad City introduces a beat and it becomes something else completely. Sad City is a dude from Scotland who's putting out music on Underwater Peoples, and you might originally think, because of the twirling clarinet, that this song has a lot in common with label-mate Julian Lynch. But that beat sets it apart. It's as if he starts the song hanging out in an old black and white movie and all of a sudden everything's in color. (via Altered Zones)
