Feist recorded Metals cloistered up in a cabin in Big Sur, and the sound of the record has all the lushness of that particular type of isolation. The hard-edged lyricism of a woman scorned is smoothed and allayed by swelling orchestral arrangements and backup vocals from a children's choir. As usual, Feist's gritty, capable croon has got enough metallic edge to make it okay to like soft rock. Metals is out October 4th.
