How did Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington manage to make exactly the music I want to listen to right now? (Maybe all the time?) Darkside’s vocals are complex and haunting, the guitars—guys, guitars!!!!—are driving but delicate, the beat is infectious but never bombastic—’70s-inflected but never nostalgic. Harrington seems to put a little weight under Jaar's airy build, but the sound remains looped and swaddled in that same spare sensibility. It's a meeting-of-the-minds frankenstein that will probably never be a monster, but it's definitely gonna be major amongst a certain set. Darkside is out now on Jaar's label Clown and Sunset.
