The Last Holiday, a memoir by the late Gil Scott-Heron, is slated for release on Martin Luther King Day, January 16th. Among his significant musical accomplishments, Scott-Heron was also a five-time published author in his life. The book will be released by Canongate Books, who are currently hosting a sample chapter where Scott-Heron recounts an Oakland performance with Stevie Wonder on the night that John Lennon was murdered. You can download the text, as well as listen to a recording of it read by Scott-Heron.
A tribute show for the singer has been scheduled for January 19th at London's Wilton's Music Hall. The concert will include a performance from Jamie XX, who collaborated with Scott-Heron on a remix album called We're New Here.
