The official title of this remix is "On'n'on (Ruined by Rick Rubin)," harking back to the 1991 CD he produced for
Queen, "
We Will Rock You (Ruined by Rick Rubin)." It's a fitting historical side note, particularly for a song that sees
Justice sounding (
and dressing) like Queen. So Rubin enters with chariots of fire drum breaks, returning to the remix, a rarely-expressed corner of his storied production career—as profiled
here in FADER #23—armed with cowbells and muted funk guitar. His "ruining" is a coronation if there ever was one. An EP full of "On'n'on" remixes by
Brodinski,
Erol Alkan,
Tiga and of course Rubin comes out January 30th collaboratively via
Ed Banger, Because, Elektra and Vice.
