The only downside, if you can even call it a downside, to being part of a band like Deerhunter is that the records from both that project and Bradford Cox's Atlas Sound are so colossal they sometimes feel like instant classics before you've even heard them once. Expectation for anything that anyone in that band does is automatically through the roof. I don't mean in a blind love sense, so much as when those albums come out, they arrive fully formed, with a strong idea about what they are and an even stronger idea about how long they want to last (forever). Lockett Pundt, the guitarist of Deerhunter, also spends quite a bit of time on his own project, Lotus Plaza. Lotus Plaza is often overlooked, but it really shouldn't be, as "Come Back" feels like pristine, late-afternoon dream pop, expanding and shifting calmly, but with sadness as well. The track comes from a Lotus Plaza split 10-inch, out February 14th on Audraglint, with Spooky Action at a Distance, the second Lotus Plaza full length, coming April 2nd on Kranky.
